10 Weight Loss Foods That Keep You Full

If you want to shed pounds fast, eating weight loss foods is a sure-fire way to achieve your goal as long as you also have a proper workout program in place. Weight loss foods include complex carbohydrates, lean protein and healthy fats and they are digested slowly keeping you full for hours. Here are 10 of them.

Food 1: Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes rank number 1 on my list because in my opinion, it's the most satiating weight loss food I know. Eating just 1 or 2 can already fill up your stomach pretty fast. Sweet potatoes have a lot of valuable nutrients in them and they are extremely nourishing. They are a rich source of complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber, beta-carotene, potassium as well as several other vitamins and minerals. A great way of cooking sweet potatoes is to simply boil or bake them. Apart keeping you full, sweet potatoes provide a sustained release of energy and will keep you energetic throughout the day.

Food 2: Broccoli

Broccoli is another weight loss food which gets high rating on my part as far as keeping hunger pangs at bay. It's pretty amazing how a vegetable like broccoli can keep you satiated. Just a cup or two of broccoli florets can be considered a meal on its own. Well, the simple reason is because broccoli is loaded with dietary fiber, water and multiple nutrients which give a feeling of satiety. Broccoli has also several health benefits due to its high amounts of carotenoids and these can prevent heart disease, macular degeneration and cancer including prostate cancer amongst others.

When cooking broccoli, it's vital not to overcook them so as not to decrease their nutritional value. "Lightly cooked" broccoli will retain its bright green color and will remain a bit crunchy and this is what you should be looking for. Recommended cooking methods include grilling, baking, steaming, boiling and stir frying.

Food 3: Oatmeal

Oatmeal made from wholegrain oats or rolled oats is one of the best weight loss foods out there which gives a feeling of great satiety and will boost your energy levels. Packed with complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber and protein, oatmeal is considered a staple food for breakfast for weight loss adherents, fitness enthusiasts, bodybuilders and athletes alike. Preparing oatmeal is all about creativity. You can add milk, dried cranberries, raisins, bananas, blueberries and honey whichever you prefer.

Oatmeal offers several health benefits like reducing bad cholesterol levels(LDL), preventing strokes and colon cancer. When buying oatmeal, avoid those refined ones. Usually these are the instant oatmeal which have been slightly processed and contain added sugar. 100 grams of wholegrain oats can easily give you a whopping 10 grams of dietary fiber. Apart oatmeal, oat bran is also a good alternative.

Food 4: Eggs

Eggs are one of the most inexpensive weight loss foods. They are a rich source of essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals including folic acid, riboflavin, vitamins B6, B12, A, D, E, choline, iron, potassium and phosphorus. Most of the nutrients are found in the egg yolk. A whole large egg contains around 6 grams of high-quality protein which can keep hunger away. If your cooking method is boiling, the best way to make eggs satiating is to hard boil them. You can also do omelette, scrambled eggs, poached eggs. When you buy eggs, go for free range eggs instead of caged eggs, whereby the chicken are allowed to roam freely in a farmyard. These eggs are usually of higher quality and contain more nutritional value like higher omega-3 fatty acids, less saturated fat and more vitamins and minerals.

Food 5: Pulses

Pulses are another cheap source of weight loss foods. These include lentils and beans like kidney beans, red beans, black beans, cannellini beans, pinto beans, lima beans, navy beans, garbanzo beans and soya beans. Rich in complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals like iron, zinc and magnesium, pulses are slow-digesting foods which will keep you full for hours and are also ideal for vegetarians.

Food 6: Nuts

Nuts are packed with omega-3 essential fatty acids(EFAs) and are superb weight loss foods which will keep you satiated in between meals. Some examples of nuts include almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, cashew nuts, pecans, macadamia nuts. Just a handful of nuts daily as a snack is enough to help fight belly fat, prevent heart disease and other health ailments.

Food 7: Apples

An apple a day keeps the doctor away is an age-old adage which makes sense. Apples are amazing weight loss foods and very healthy. They are high in dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals and loaded with pectins which have anti-cancer properties. Pectins are the most abundant in the skin. Eating just 1 big apple in the morning gives a great feeling of satiety. Eating apples as a snack is also a healthier alternative as compared to eating potato chips, cakes or cookies.

Food 8: Avocados

Avocados are rich in healthy fats like the monounsaturated fats, high in dietary fiber, potassium, vitamins notably B and E and they make a great weight loss food that can keep you full for quite a long time. There are a lot of creative ways you can prepare avocado recipes and avocado smoothies and salads are some of them. Regular intake of avocados has shown to lower bad blood cholesterol levels(LDL) and triglyceride levels while increasing the good blood cholesterol levels(HDL).

Food 9: Salmon

Salmon ranks easily among the top 10 weight loss foods which can keep hunger at bay. High in quality protein, nutritious and packed with healthy omega-3 polyunsaturated fats, salmon should be added to any weight loss diet. Always opt for wild salmon instead of farm raised salmon as the former is more natural and eats healthier food. Grilled salmon is simply a relish.

Food 10: Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is a great weight loss food which is soft, low in fat and high in protein and can easily keep you full for long but it's not very popular due to its bland taste. A few tips to make your cottage cheese taste better is to add some fruits like blueberries, peaches, bananas or a drizzle of honey.
