Are
Antioxidants Good For Weight Loss?
There
are many proven benefits of antioxidants for our body and the
most well known amongst them is neutralization of free radicals.
Every time oxygen is converted into energy these radicals are
formed and if they are left unchecked they can have long standing
effects on our bodies. Hence antioxidants are known to be vital
for our system. But are antioxidants good for weight loss? That's
a question often debated and although the jury is divided on the
direct impact of antioxidants on one's weight loss program, no
one can deny the fact that do have a role to play when it comes
to weight loss.
Just look at some of the common sources of antioxidants in our
daily life. Strawberries, blueberries, cherries, sweet potatoes,
broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, cabbage, spinach, olives and
raisins etc are rich in antioxidants, which protect our bodies
from the harmful effects of the oxidation process. One look at
this list and it's not difficult to see why imbibing them in your
diet can be a start of healthy living. Moreover, many of these
ingredients are low in calories and hence adding them to your
diet will not increase your calorie intake; if anything it might
help you cut it down to an extent.
But one of the major contributions of antioxidants in weight loss
is the fact that they provide your body nutrition when you lose
weight. Because when you burn fat, which is essential for losing
weight you also tend to lose vital nutrients from your body. Antioxidants
make sure that these nutrients are replenished into your system
so you do not feel fatigued and can continue with your diet plan,
exercise etc with equal vigor. Only because of this nutritional
support will your body stay healthy and strong to go keep up with
changes it goes through during weight loss.
Your weight loss also depends on your individual metabolism. If
your metabolism rate is on the lower side, no matter how much
you work out and push yourself, you will not see the desired results.
It's one reason why many dieters who have gotten into a fitness
program give up their good work along the way; because they don't
see results. Antioxidants ensure that your metabolism is maintained
at a healthy rate and you are on a high energy level to cope with
the rigors of your fitness program and lose weight too.
