Are Scrambled Eggs Good for Losing Weight?

Healthy eggs are high in protein, good cholesterol, and can be an important part of a balanced diet. It turns out that your body needs a bit of fat, cholesterol, and protein to help your system feel like you're getting adequate nutrition. If you don't eat healthy foods full of vitamins and minerals, your body will assume you are starving and will start to store calories as fat. It turns out that eating no breakfast at all can actually cause you to gain weight rather than lose weight! This is because your body only stores fat because it thinks you'll need it.

Studies recently have shown that eating eggs for breakfast can actually help you to lose weight. Scrambled eggs are good, but eating them boiled or poached is also good. Two eggs for breakfast may be just what you need to get your daily nutrition started right. Two eggs may have the same number of calories as a bagel, but a bagel is harder for the body to use as energy. In a study in the UK, women on a low calorie diet were given the choice of two eggs or a bagel for breakfast. The women who ate the eggs lost more weight.

It turns out that if you eat a healthy breakfast, you also don't have as big an appetite throughout the rest of the day. Scrambled eggs in particular can make you feel satisfied for much longer than a breakfast full of carbohydrates. With less of an appetite, you will probably snack less, eat smaller portions at other meals, and have more energy.

However, not every egg is the same. Eggs that come in a milk carton, sometimes called "egg product" are not the same as farm fresh eggs from healthy chickens. Similarly, if the chickens who laid the eggs are pumped full of antibiotics and are unhealthy themselves, the eggs won't have the same nutritional content that you need. Plus you'll get extra chemicals that you don't need. Chickens need to scratch, peck, and browse on a mixture of grass, grains, and calcium rich foods. If they don't, their eggs have softer shells, the egg yolk is not golden in color, and the eggs themselves don't taste as good due to low nutritional content.

Eating scrambled eggs very well may help you to lose weight, especially if you combine a healthy breakfast of scrambled eggs with other healthy meals throughout the day.
