Is Red Meat Bad for You When Trying to Lose Weight?

If you really want to lose weight, you may have to make some small and some very significant changes to the way you eat. Start by eating smaller portions. Most people overeat, due to the abundance of good, cheap food. The problem is that so much of the food we buy and eat today is heavily processed and made from ingredients that are hard for the body to use and absorb. Even when we eat plenty of food, our bodies are starved for quality nutrition, and as a result, we tend to store energy rather than use it right away.

Red meat in and of itself isn't necessarily bad for you. The problem is that most of the red meat available today is full of antibiotics and other chemicals that are fed to the animals that the meat comes from. If the animals are unhealthy, eating unhealthy food and living in their own excrement, then the meat is not going to be healthy for you to eat. Plus, we tend to eat so much red meat that our bodies cannot handle it all. We can certainly benefit from small portions of red meat once or even twice a week. But to eat red meat more than that is to add heavy animal fat to your diet that you just can't use.

Many people who want to lose weight realize that they are overeating in general and eating much too much red meat. It is a good idea to at least eat less red meat and eat leaner cuts of red meat if you're trying to lose weight. But on the other hand, if you usually eat a lot of meat, cutting it out entirely might be very difficult at first. You have to train your digestive system to get back to the healthy whole grains and vegetables that you are good at digesting.

This may take some time, but if you are determined to lose weight, cutting out red meat is an important step. Make sure that you don't replace the red meat in your diet with other foods that will also encourage you to gain weight. Focus on eating more beans, whole grains, and vegetables - all foods that are very healthy, contain essential vitamins and minerals, and can help you to lose weight in a natural and permanent manner. It's okay to splurge once in a while, but you'll lose weight effectively if you only eat red meat sparingly.
