Mediterranean Diet Recipes Menus For Weight Loss

The people of the Mediterranean, particularly the region of Crete and Greece were found to live longer than any other population of people in the world. They were also found to be 20% less likely to die of coronary artery disease and 1/3 less likely to develop cancer. These statistics sent shockwaves through the community of nutritionists who went in search of the implications of diet and lifestyle to see if they were correlated with the longevity of the people. It has been in fact found that the diet of the people in this region is directly responsible for longer life spans. The Mediterranean diet recipes and menus for weight loss success discussed in this article will make your mouth water and your taste buds tingle.

The main ingredients that this region is known for are black olives, green olives, olive oil, garlic, red wine, and balsamic vinegar. These ingredients are part of the foundation of most recipes cooked in this region and contain ingredients that help the body to lose weight and contribute to great cardiovascular health over the long term. Red meat and saturated fats are a small part of the diet and are rarely eaten in this culture, instead¸ fish abundant in omega-3 fats, olive oil, and good fats are used in recipes that add flavor and health benefits.

For a snack, this recipe made with cannellini beans and bruschetta will hit the spot in a pinch for yourself or as an appetizer for unannounced guests. The ingredients needed will be: One loaf of country style bread cut into 10 slices, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 3 tablespoons of fresh basil, 4 cloves of garlic, ¼ cup of olive oil, ½ cup of balsamic vinegar¸ two 15- ounce cans of drained cannellini beans, and salt and pepper to taste. Heat the oven to 425 degrees. Take the olive oil and brush it on the bread slices and place on a cookie sheet. Once browned, flip over to brown the other side and remove from the oven. Rub each piece of bread with a garlic clove. Let sit. Pour all the balsamic vinegar in a sauce pan and simmer on low heat until syrupy in texture. Take the mixture off the heat and let sit. In a food processor place the cannellini beans, garlic, lemon juice, basil and salt. Drizzle in your olive oil and turn on the blender. Blend to a creamy consistency.
